FLASH FICTION A DAY: JAN 18

Well, today I have a little piece, somewhat similar to yesterday’s piece. I had so much fun with this muse that an idea was born, so Dreamland’s Insurgents dropped me a prompt to help this little piece along.

Today’s Prompt:  There, on the dusty shelves of the forbidden library, is what you have sought for so long: the forgotten Tome of Bodily Exercise.

Today’s Story:

The Pioneer

Staring at the screen attached to your hover chair, you silently contemplate how you can ever create any new content.  We live in a day in age where hoverchairs are the norm, and no one walks or moves around and constant input and distractions how one lives.  Extreme weight is a sign of wealth and beauty.  But enough is enough, you can not take it anymore, your arms jiggle with every movement.  With any sudden turn your whole body turns into a tidal wave of movement. Similar to those old jello commercials we all watched as kids.  Putting those disturbing realities out of your mind, you secretly glide through the night towards the forbidden library, with the hopes that you can find some answers there. Balance, that may be the key to finding something new and outrageous to write. Maybe it is time, time to be a trendsetter rather than follow the societal norm. You are after all sneaking your way into the forbidden library, may as well go all out and break all the rules!

The isles and isles of books are too close together for a hoverchair. Not to mention they are not digital. What are you supposed to do with that? Slowly stepping out of your chair, you pant as you take the couple steps to the books closest.  Lo and behold the shelf is holding just what you need, the long forgotten Tome of Bodily Exercise. Carefully moving back to your hoverchair, you climb back in and leaf though a few pages, looking back to the screen, maybe now you can write something.  Something about the ancestors and how they moved through life?  Nope… still you have nothing.

“Hey friend! No tricks, gimmicks, special pills, special potions, special equipment. All it takes is desire and will.” Richard Simmons is jogging in place next to you. You were sure there was no one around, where did he come from???

“Excuse me? What?!” you ask him, shocked and a bit uncomfortable. He is in the shortest shorts you have ever seen, and is that… sequence on his shirt.  Yes, yes it is, oh that just isn’t right. There is no way that is comfortable…

“You totally got this!  You are special, and if you do you, then you will totally have the words you are looking for.  Stop getting in your own way, just let it flow!  Go easy, you are just getting started. You got this!  Do it with me now” he says as he pretends to write in the air in front of himself, “And one and two, words fall out. And three and four, they fill the air.” He jogs in place a few more moments as you look on bewildered.

Blinking and shaking your head, you look over and he is gone. Was he even there? You really gotta get a grip on yourself.  With that, you know exactly what to say. Change is coming. You are the pioneer!
