Valentine’s Day 2016

IMG_20160214_154952488Hey all, I totally have a wonderful update for you, but I will send that out later, as today is Valentine’s Day and I want to share what a marvelous day I had!

I brought you a special present.

A book?

Does it got any sports in it?
Are you kidding? Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, True Love, miracles…
Doesn’t sound too bad. I’ll try and stay awake.

Well, for all of you who know what that is from, you will love what comes next!  I started off on the first of February, giving him a countdown with little notes and some gifts for each day! Although he said the finale was the best!

We then worked together on presenting this special meal! He has such beautiful writing that he did all the little placecards for our meal. We worked together on creating our perfect meal and it was so much fun!  Then, we sat down and enjoyed watching the movie while we ate!  It was the best Valentine’s Day I have ever had!

I hope you enjoyed our Princess Bride Valentine’s Day extravaganza!!!  How about you? Did you have a wonderful day? How do you celebrate?  Share with me what you did, I want to hear from you!

Letters from Camp: Last Letter!

Camp-Participant-2015-Web-Banner

I can’t believe it, today is my last letter from camp.  I was going to tell you all about this great holiday that happens to be today, Uncommon Instrument Awareness Day, but… I am all sad.  I can’t believe that today is the last day of camp.  I have to tell ya though… I had a six thousand word day on Wednesday!!!  I couldn’t believe it!  I was super excited about that!

Oh, and about that Uncommon Instrument Awareness Day… well, not many people know this, but I play the harp!  I was going to post this great picture of my harp for you all, but I am away from home and I totally forgot to take a picture before I left.  But I might just add one in later, when I get home next week!  I also play the penny whistle and accordion!  I have a real love for different instruments and if I could have one of everything I totally would.  Someday I want to have a full size floor harp, a violin and I would like to also learn to play the bagpipes!

What about you?  Do you play any interesting instruments?  Share  unique fact about yourself with us!

Letters from Camp: Paperback Book Day, “Squee”

Camp-Participant-2015-Twitter-ProfileLet’s be honest here people… If you are a reader (and of course that is a big assumption on my part, but if you are following my blog I gotta believe you have some kind of like/passion/love for the written word) any time you walk into a bookstore, it is almost as if you are a 14-year old fangirl/boy!

I know that when I am around books, I am all like:

“my precious”

Well, today is going to be a rush, I am going to be gone for another weekend… You know, at that party camp!  (Ok, maybe it is just my sisters house, but still!)  So, since I am so behind and Camp ends in just a couple days, I am going to shoot for getting finished today and tomorrow morning!  Let’s see if I can!!!

What about you? Do you have that same response to books?!? What makes you “squee” like a little teenage fan?

Letters from Camp: Gorgeous Grandma Day! What?!?

Back in 2011, in a hotel lobby in Rochester, on one of many trips to the Mayo Clinic for my wife!

I don’t have a whole lot for ya today! I am out and about, with a Camp field trip, visiting another camp! (shhh, its a secret, not really though).  So I thought I would share a great holiday with you, Gorgeous Grandma Day! Why may you ask?  Well, the answer is simple, cause I have an amazingly epic grams, who, just my luck (or maybe that is curse), is also my mom!

What about you?  Are you going to celebrate this holiday?  Say hi to your grams, or remember her with a recipe that was passed down, or write her a letter!  What are you going to do?

Letters from Camp: Midway Point… Oh my!

Camp-Participant-2015-Web-Banner

Oh my… we are already half way through camp?!?  Say it isn’t so!  Whatever will I do when I have to go home from this wonderful journey?  No longer have the unicorns out back and the mermaids in the harbor!  At least there is the baby phoenix that will be coming home with me!  He and I bonded instantly, I was so happy he didn’t run amok yesterday.  Saints alive, Pandemonium Day was a mess!  Things seem to be settling down now though.  Sadly we are looking to a whole new crazy, what with camp already being half way to a close!

I have to say, I am a total and complete fail!  Thus far this month, the writing has just not really happened. I have just been so stuck. I have been more than ready the past few days, but life keeps getting in the way!  Well, tomorrow starts another attempt at a MEcation!  Right in the middle of camp!  So hopefully the words will pour out on the page!

Today being Gummi Worm Day, I will totally make it all better and bring a few bags to share with the mermaids!  I am sure the Griffins would love if I would bring some by!  You never would have known it, but gummi worms are their favorite food!  Just mind their beaks!

What about you? Where are you on your camp projects?  How is the world at large treating you?  Talk to me!

Letters from Camp: Pandemonium Day!#!@!

fungi1Oh man! The flood gates have opened! There is ORANGE coral growing on LAND! Today is Pandemonium Day, and I fear the dragons are going to have us all!  The unicorns have stampeded through the valley, the mermaids are trying to pull everyone out to sea, and the phoenixes are puffing up in flames when they land on people!

Be careful out there today folks! Anything could happen! If the Harpies are going to carry you away, make them work for it!

Letters from Camp: Inclement Weather

Camp-Participant-2015-Web-Banner

Well, after a weekend getaway, I got home and was ready to write tonight!  But wouldn’t you know it, a big storm came up, and I spent over an hour in the basement!  Then when it finally had passed, the power was still surging for another hour or two!  So, I guess I am not really getting the writing I had planned on done.  Seems so much keeps coming up!

monitorsToday is Embrace Your Geekiness Day!  I think I will do so by spending the day on the computer! Geeking out and writing! Of course, I will also have to take some time out to do some critiquing, seeing as I have a crit group meeting tomorrow!  Wow, where has the time gone?!? Can you believe we are already thirteen days into camp?!

What about you? Is life getting in your way? Are you getting the writing done you hoped for? Are you behind yet hopeful like me?

Letters from Camp: A Teddy Bear Picnic!

Camp-Participant-2015-Web-Banner

Just had to share one of the most epic days ever!  Today is Teddy Bear Picnic Day!

And of course, what would a teddy bear picnic be without pictures of my very own picnic!

TeddyBearPicnic3 TeddyBearPicnic4  TeddyBearPicnic1TeddyBearPicnic2

So are you going to go out and have your teddy bear picnic now?  If so, be sure to tell me all about it!  Share the pictures!  Wouldn’t this make a great scene in your book? If you are stuck, write a scene where your character goes out and has a teddy bear picnic, or maybe they think it is totally ridiculous and teases someone about having done so in the past!  Whatever the case, it is bound to get your word count rolling!  Tell me what you are doing this Teddy Bear Picnic holiday!

Letters from Camp: Truth & Forgiveness

Camp-Participant-2015-Web-Banner

So today at camp, and across the world is Tell the Truth Day and Global Forgiveness Day!  The two couldn’t go more hand in hand.  Seeing as I can not lie today, (not that I ever do, scouts honor!) I will admit that I did not write at all yesterday! But that is not to say I have not worked hard on Mo Thuras! I did some important reading, and I also managed a bit of brainstorming and feel like I am “in” my novel once more! So in honor of Forgiveness Day, I am going to forgive myself for not having written all weekend, and yet today.  I am going to brush myself off and get back to work tomorrow!

As an added bonus, what if one of your characters could not lie?  Or maybe they have a whole day, or week, or month that they have to tell the absolute truth! What would that do for your story? For the character?  What about a character that always lies!  Or one who never forgives anyone?  Some food for thought! I look forward to hearing if any of that appears in your camp novel!

Letters from Camp: What Fun!

WOW!  So yesterday was Independence Day, and here at Camp it was also family day!  So we had a day away and spent time with our family’s who we are not really seeing for the month.  The best laid plans seemed to have gone awry, but the end of the night was a great success!

We saw FIREWORKS!  So, I wont say much tonight, but I will share some amazing pictures with you!  So, for your viewing pleasure, my day away from camp:
